“Why Do You Believe?”

“And without faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6

The question raged between the Pharisees and the Sadducees. Paul even uses it to distract the two groups at one of his inquisitions. Paul wrote to the church at Corinth because some of them had stopped believing in it. Today we live in a world where some people think we are absurd to even think it might be true. Yet Paul says if it is not true then we are most miserable.

Know what I’m talking about yet? You guessed it. It is the resurrection. People want to believe there is life after death, but we really have no proof. We have people writing books about dying and coming back and telling all sorts of things and people even Christian people get caught up in the words of that must prove it. Yet the whole world from the very beginning started rumors that Jesus didn’t really rise from the dead, it was a conspiracy started by the apostles and they continued it long after His death.

So the question comes down to each of us: Do we believe Jesus rose from the dead and do we believe that if we believe in Him we will rise from the dead too? We cannot base our belief on a book that someone wrote. We cannot base our belief on the words of the Bible (although I believe every word to be true.) The word throws stones at the Bible and says it is biased. So how do you and I hold on to the truth of the resurrection?

Paul says in Romans 10 that to be saved we must “Confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead.” (Romans 10:9) So it isn’t about written proof it is about our FAITH. You can’t have faith for someone else. You can’t force faith on someone. You must have faith for yourself.

Faith is believing in something that you can’t prove. Faith is believing in what God says is true without the scientific knowledge to back it up. Faith is about trusting God no matter what the world and the so called experts think. Faith is about your heart knowledge of what you know to be true because of what God has revealed to you.

Now many of us have the same faith, but each one of us had to develop it for ourselves. Faith cannot be learned. It must be experienced. Remember, “Faith pleases God!” How are you pleasing Him today?

Dear Jesus, like the man in the Bible, we have faith, help our unbelief. Give us courage when everything around us say opposite too what we know is true. Give us strength to stand on you and your promises. Help us to allow our Faith to show others that we need you and you alone. Grow our faith. In Jesus name, Amen.
