Daily Devotion 6.12.20

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.”

Psalm 42:1

At one time in our life we had a cocker spaniel named, Hawkeye. When he roamed our house he was the head of the house. We got him to be the family dog and he did love us all, but he was David’s dog. Where David walked, Hawkeye walked. Where David sat, Hawkeye sat. When David ate, Hawkeye thought he was supposed to eat. And when David did feed him he ate it as if it was a feast made just for him.

He would have jumped through fire for David. He knew David was concerned for him and wanted what was best for him. He even understood that when David corrected him it was what was best for him. David wished back then that everyone thought he was as wonderful as Hawkeye did.

I was just thinking, if we belong to the Lord shouldn’t we be that faithful to him. We should love other people and share with other people, but in reality shouldn’t we walk where the Lord walks, sit where He wants us to sit and eat from His table. We would be feasting from His Spirit and His word.

But most of us are more loyal to our families, to our friends, to our job, to our lifestyle, or to our hobby than we are to the Lord. We should be as loyal as Hawkeye and as devoted as Hawkeye was because we know that that Lord knows what is best and He will take care of us and He even will correct us because He knows what lies ahead. We should have trusting faith in Him anywhere He leads. We should trust Him to take care of us. We should worship Him and be in awe of Him.

Read Psalm 42. Here this excerpt: “Why my soul are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and My God.” (Psalm 42:5) Remember always put your trust in God. He knows what lies ahead and He will be there with you.

Lord help us each day to be truly faithful. To realize you must be first in our lives. To trust you with all we are, all we have, and all we ever will be. Help us to be trusting children eager to be lead, taught, corrected and strengthened by you each day. As we thirst after you O Lord, fill us with overflowing so we will be able to share you with others. In Christ name we pray, Amen.
