Daily Devotion 6.18.20

June 18, 2020

“I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” Revelation 1:18

I was in charge of a large group headed to a World Changer project in western Tennessee. We had to spend one night on our way to the project. We spent the night outside of Nashville. As we got to the hotel we were give key cards to 10 rooms. We had one for the driver, four for the guys and five for the girls. Everyone went to their rooms, dropped off their luggage and we got ready for supper.

All of a sudden one of my adult ladies came and said they couldn’t get in their room. Their key card wasn’t working. I went and gave it a try. I couldn’t get the door opened. We went down and the young clerk gave me new keys. We went back up to the third floor and the keys still didn’t work. We went back down and the clerk got a pass key put out a sign and went to the third floor. Her pass key didn’t work. She said she had tried to find the manager but he had stepped out. She decided to give us another room. We opened the new door and there was only one bed. That wouldn’t work because we had three ladies in the room. We decided to put the ladies luggage in the room next door and talk to the manager when we got back from supper.

Right before we left the manager showed up. He got a hand full of real keys out of his office and we went to the original room. He explained that sometime the batteries in the door went bad. He let us in the original room and because it had an adjoining door, we could make it work. Finally a real key to open the door.

That incident of the real key got me to Just Thinking! Have you ever noticed how people think there are many ways to be saved? We have the Co-Exist community who believe there are many ways to salvation. We have the just do good community who believe if you are good to your fellow man you have nothing to worry about. How about the, I go to church and give some money crowd. How about the, I belong to a church crowd. They believe they have the key to acceptance by Jesus because of what they do.

If you are a child of God, saved by Him, then you know it is only by His grace you are saved. You realize that there is only one real key to heaven and nowhere on earth will you and I find it. Jesus is the key to salvation. He is the key to heaven. He is the key to an abundant life. If you want to have joy and peace you will not find it in an artificial substitute. You will only find it in Jesus. Here is what He said, “I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” It is best to know the manager of the world. He is the only one with the “real” key.

Dear Lord, help us to stop being fooled by our own minds. We are too busy trying to find our own way. When we rely on ourselves we get lost and bogged down every time. We need you because you are the only way. Help us to lovingly share this with those who are trying to find peace any other way. Help us to stand firm in the fact that Jesus is the only way. In His name we pray, Amen.
